Making The Hudsons Bigger

Hello and welcome to another edition of Behind SouthWaves. I know I have already written once this week, but I had planned this post before I realized!

I have had people ask me about the return of audio drama serial The Hudsons, and I have not been able to tell them much. I can admit that work on the second season has been a little slow, but it is getting there. It is not that ideas have been thin on the ground, but that scaling up has been a bit of a challenge. I have always intended to build The Hudsons world into one of many characters and situations; something which was not before possible due to constraints.

Thanks to a great initiative in Bognor Regis, the issues that once plagued the project are now a thing of the past. Radio Respect CIC is a Bognor based radio station dedicated to mental health wellbeing, who also runs a number of local initiatives. One of these, The Blue Room, is a community space open to be used for a wide range of activities. While I visited the space, they were collecting items for the homeless, and it has also been used for art classes, book sales and more. It is still in it’s early stages of being, but The Blue Room has potential to do a lot of good in the area; I support it.

After a lengthy conversation with Trudy (Who runs the space), it was agreed that I could book to use it for something related to SouthWaves Audio. After much thought, it makes sense to use it for recording episodes of The Hudsons. I have recently put a casting call out for local actors and have been surprised by the positive reaction to the project. Use of a community space means that we can bring actors in to record lines, opening up the floor for audio drama participation.

It is still early days, but it has long been an ambition of mine to set up an audio drama production group, and this could be the start. The ‘ordinary’ nature of The Hudsons makes the show an easy starting point for prospective voice actors. It is a world of possibilities!

I will update on progress when I have more information.
