Behind SouthWaves: 23-11-18

Hello and welcome to another edition of Behind SouthWaves. It has been yet another busy week, with lots of positive actions being taken. Firstly, I would like to clear up something that I know people wonder about but often jump to conclusions before finding out the real answer.

I would like to take my hat off to Anne Hegerty, who is taking part in the current series of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. A diagnosed Aspie, she has been helping to highlight the condition in such a positive way; something that I have taken great inspiration from. Her story has helped me find the words to explain something quite important to me… I, as some are aware, am also an Aspie. (Asperger’s syndrome). This fact means that I occasionally have to go a different route with some tasks.

As part of my role with SouthWaves Audio, I have many projects on the go, and with this comes great responsibility. It involves me contacting people on a regular basis, and communicating with them through messages, phone calls and emails. I am mostly fine with this method, as it is just about non-personal and takes only a few minutes out of my day. Due to the local nature of some of my voluntary work, I am sometimes invited to meet people in person. I have done this on many an occasion, but I have a rule that I don’t accept every invitation.

Some people see my rejection of their invitation as some kind of personal attack, but it is not the way I intend it to be. I can sometimes find it difficult to fit everything into my day, and so must make choices of the best ways to use my time. There is also a personal reason for this, which I rarely speak about.

In the last year or so, I have suffered from a form of depression, which has fluctuated my mood and affected my motivation. On some days, I find it hard to leave my home; meaning that I cannot make too many outside appointments in advance. Things are improving, but I don’t like to let anyone down by making promises I can’t keep. I hope that I have managed to explain this clearly because I have had some negativity towards the fact that I will reject face to face meetings; leading to parties abandoning support of what I do.

Now that I have explained that, I can tell you of the positive events of the last week. There has been a steady upshift in the takeup of our Bognor Regis Community Podcast, which will continue to grow. In particular, I have seen praise for the weekly videos publicizing local events; something that will continue to be expanded on. Overall, there has been an overall increase in interest for all SouthWaves Audio productions, something that I am pleased with.
