Behind SouthWaves: Reviving SouthWaves Radio

SouthWaves was a dream I had 4 years ago, it should be somewhere by now.

Hello and welcome to another Behind SouthWaves blog. I know that I have not been in contact lately, but I have had some issues to deal with. I have tried to sit down and write one for a while, but have struggled to find the words. As usual, I might find that I will use up all of my words for the next month!

The Future Of SouthWaves Radio

Since changing the Twitter account back to¬†SouthWaves Radio, I have been inundated with messages asking if the station is to return. Sadly, it looks very unlikely at present due to a lack of funding. Personally, I have no income and cannot justify the cost of starting and maintaining the service. I have recently researched ways of bringing it back, but would need to get over the funding issue before starting anything. I often have people ask me to put my research and ideas in detail, but I don’t think it’s the way to go about it.

Chances are, I would risk alienating my audience and discouraging their support; should I explain things in too much detail.

Crowdfunding For SouthWaves Radio
While restarting SouthWaves Radio does not fix my lack of employment immediately, I have missed running the station and want to do it as a hobby; as I have found solutions to some of the issues I had previously. I have proposed that before any Crowdfunding, I would get support from local businesses and organisations by having them offer rewards. These would generally be offer of a service or treat to the donator, but with the money coming to help fund our project. I know this is a tough ask of some businesses, but I have done so with the idea of promoting independent local business.

More than just music radio, I have pioneered some local radio ideas in the county, and it has paid off previously. I have established contact with every theatre in Sussex and Hampshire, some local universities and other organisations. I have worked with all of these things to create content. Before going off, I was also in the process of working with actors and musicians on a range of audio drama content; something people were excited about.
